App: Anycade · Last updated: September 30, 2026 · Deutsch

Anycade is an emulator and launcher app for classic handheld games (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and SNES). The app is built around data minimisation: we operate no servers of our own and do not collect any personal data for advertising, profiling or analytics purposes. This policy informs you in line with the Swiss Data Protection Act (revDSG) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. What data is processed

2.1 Locally on your device

Anycade initially processes the following data locally on your device:

Access to your ROM folders uses the Android file picker (Storage Access Framework). The app does not request any broad storage permission. Anycade does not upload ROM files.

2.2 Loading cover images (disclosure abroad)

Online covers are disabled by default. If you voluntarily enable them after a clear notice, the app loads images from the public service LibRetro Thumbnails (thumbnails.libretro.com). The following is transmitted to that service:

The service is operated by a third party (the LibRetro project); its servers may be located outside Switzerland and the EU (e.g. in the USA). This therefore constitutes a disclosure of personal data abroad (Art. 16 f. revDSG / Art. 44 ff. GDPR). An equivalent level of data protection may not exist in those countries. We have no influence over the data processing carried out by LibRetro; their own privacy practices apply.

Purpose: displaying matching cover images for your games. Legal basis (where GDPR applies): your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).

Control and withdrawal: you can disable online covers in Settings at any time. Without your opt-in, no request is sent to LibRetro and Anycade uses its own placeholder graphics instead.

2.3 Android system backup and manual backups

Anycade participates in Android system backup. If device backup is enabled, Android may store internal app settings and save files in the private backup of the user's Google Account using encrypted transfer, and restore them during app reinstallation or device setup. This process is controlled by Android and Google; Anycade has no access to the Google Account or its backup contents. ROM files in user-selected folders are not included in this backup.

Users can also explicitly export save files as a ZIP archive to a location of their choice or import them from there. Anycade does not itself transmit these backups to a server.

2.4 Purchases

If paid features are offered, payment is processed via Google Play. Payment data is handled by Google; we receive no credit-card or bank details. Google's privacy policy applies.

2.5 No further data collection

3. App permissions

4. Retention period

Local app data remains on your device until you delete it, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Cached covers can be removed by clearing the app cache. Manually exported backups remain at the selected location until you delete them. Retention and deletion of Android system backups are governed by the settings and terms of the Google Account. We do not store any data about you. Which log data LibRetro keeps when serving images is beyond our knowledge and control.

5. Your rights

Under the revDSG / GDPR you have, in particular, the rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability. As we store no data about you, these rights primarily concern the local data on your device, which you can delete yourself at any time (game library, settings, app uninstall).

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority:

For any data-protection matters, contact us at support.anycade@gmail.com.

6. Children's data

The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.

7. Changes to this policy

If app features, integrated services, or data flows change, this privacy policy will be updated before the corresponding release. The version stated above applies.
